Part of RWE npower, Didcot B Power Station is one of a new generation of highly efficient, gas burning power stations, which has been in commercial operation since 1997. The station is powered by natural gas and uses the latest generating technology - combined cycle gas turbines - to produce electricity.
Prefab buildings providing extra storage space
Didcot B required additional covered space for overflow storage and also required workshop space for contractors during an Outage Programme. It is important for the station to keep storage space at a premium and as space was running out, a quick and effective solution was needed. They also needed a contractor who would meet their tightly regulated working practices.
Prefab workshop buildings
Over a period of time, Didcot B purchased two prefab buildings from Aganto. The first building, measuring 15m wide by 25m long by 4m high, was initially used for overflow storage but then adapted for workshop use during the Outage Programme. After seeing how the first building had performed so well, a second prefab building was purchased from Aganto at 10m wide by 20m long by 4m high and installed in a different area of the site.

Michael Holmes, Engineering Maintenance at Didcot B commented. “After the first Aganto building worked so well for us, it was obvious we would choose them second time round. As no foundations were required, the buildings were installed so quickly and easily, serving our requirement for weather proof storage perfectly. Choosing a new contractor is always a challenge as we have such strict health and safety policies. Aganto, however, met our requirements with ease and if all our contractors worked as quickly and professionally as them our lives would be a lot easier!”
