Reducing Risk
Several key guidelines can be followed when using temporary buildings to reduce risk and increase safety:
- Buildings need to be correctly maintained to ensure their structural safety in wind / inclement weather.
- Building installations need to be carried out in line with agreed timetables and plans - ongoing changes can lead to complications and delay.
- Temporary buildings need to have the right number of emergency exists.
- For safety reasons temporary buildings should not be tampered with without the consent of the temporary building supplier. Particular areas of risk would be:

- Trying to move the building
- Pedestrian and vehicle exist doors
- Wall braces
- Anchorage position
- Trying to move walls
- Using flammable materials
- Electrical and mechanical installations
- Positive action should be taken to ensure that any underground services (gas/electric/water etc) are identified and avoided.
