Manufacturing rationalising calls for temporary warehouse

23rd May 2013

Changes in manufacturing processes can often require more space. A basic growth in demand and therefore production is the obvious one. But, rationalising manufacturing could also lead to a need for additional on-site space or a temporary warehouse.

ICEE hired an Aganto temporary warehouse recently because they were bringing their manufacturing process on-site. Previously the operation had been at a plant about ¼ of a mile down the road. The company provides services and products to the telecoms industry and have two basis in the UK.

The option to bring the manufacturing under their own roof was going to create savings and efficiencies for the business. And, they had the perfect building at their Waterlooville site to relocate it into; a brick building that was then being used for storage. That of course left the storage homeless though.

Paul Harris, the Managing Director at ICEE was looking for a fast and economical temporary warehouse solution to re-house the storage; one that would meet the same time frame and budget for the relocation project.

We worked with Paul over a few weeks providing information, referral documents, prices, site visits and meetings. This level of support isn’t always essential to providing temporary warehouses. But, for most businesses there is simply no leeway in making a wrong decision; something that could falter the whole project and have a potential serious impact on business continuity.

Obviously if the temporary warehouse chosen is wrong for your needs, it can be removed and you can go back to the drawing board. Most businesses don’t have the luxury of time or budget to do this though, so they have to work with a supplier who will help them make the right decision, first time.

ICEE eventually hired a 10m x 20m temporary warehouse with a 4m wall height. Taking full advantage of the clear-span large space inside, they installed a mezzanine flooring system and a small office building, creating more storage space and a separate work station.

Once it was delivered to site, the temporary warehouse was built and fully operational in just 4 days, giving the company a new stores building without the delay, cost and hassle of a more traditional building. And, allowing them to rationalise their manufacturing process by bringing it all under their one roof at Waterlooville.
