The UKWA Awards and the Barometer of Change

9th July 2015

Aganto were extremely honoured to have been asked by HSS Magazine as special guests to attend the UKWA Annual Awards Luncheon 2015.

In plush surroundings at The Dorchester, London, the event was a real slick affair; with credible speakers, high profile logistics companies and key industry media players, the ballroom was filled to the brim, intensifying the buzzing atmosphere. This was the hottest day in ten years, yet the melting guests still enjoyed this heady mix of logistics and manufacturing elite.

The awards, featuring categories such as manager of the year, best new warehouse member of the year and customer service awards, demonstrated the continued strength of the behemoths of the supply chains.

Encouragingly, there was a strong emphasis on the next generation of logistics and distributors through the junior and apprentice award categories. The rising stars were praised for their enthusiasm, professionalism and knowledge of the industry. Even more promising was the amount of women in the (previously) male dominated sector.

From PR professionals, to marketing managers, customer care specialists, graduates, junior managers and more, it was quite inspiring that there was such a positive female presence.

This trend was evident recently in the shape of the Women in Logistics awards last month and indicative of the changing dynamics of the logistics, construction and manufacturing sector. There are more service opportunities, including marketing, social media, customer service and IT, along with the traditionally manual work or operations.

Aganto has long had a strong team of women in high profile positions, including project managers, operations co-ordinators, executives and finance managers. The balance works extremely well, and long may we continue to see the next generation strive to make their mark in a sector that continues to evolve and adapt to society’s socio-economic developments.

This is a strong industry that has helped plough the UK out of tough economic times…b
