Temporary workshop mixes with the sailing elite

Background

Based at Camber Dock in Old Portsmouth, Ken Brown Boats provides dry stack services, brokerage and container storage.

Temporary workshop requirement

Camber Docks’ appeal led to Sir Ben Ainslie choosing the site as headquarters for the America Cup Challenge. A wonderful coup for the Dock but one that meant KB-Boatpark Dry-Stack had to relocate their site; in just four weeks.

To make way for this very welcome new neighbour, Directors Tim Anderson and Steve Ayub got to work on facilitating the move, which included sourcing a new temporary workshop building.

With only four weeks to do all this in, one of their main requirements was obviously speed. And, already knowing a bit about temporary buildings, they asked Google who replied with Aganto.

Workshop building solution

Aganto’s Sales Director, Mark Hutchison, took on the project and, well aware of the tight lead time, responded quickly with pricing options and site visits.

With a relatively tight space available the temporary workshop building needed to be just 7.5m wide and therefore a non-standard size meaning an existing building had to be adapted.

Despite this further pressure on deadlines, Aganto managed to get the workshop building to site within the allotted time frame and installed just four days later.

The end result was an insulated temporary workshop covering 75 sq m of site space and providing a working height of 4.2m. It also had vehicle and pedestrian access doors, guttering and lighting.

Benefit of the Aganto temporary workshop

Reviewing the project with Aganto Tim said that speed was the driving factor for a successful move that did not inconvenience customers or affect their business.

“We knew we only had four weeks to complete the move and that asking Sir Ben to wait a little longer wasn’t really an option!”

“As well as the fast response, we’ve also been able to hire the workshop building with a view to buying it further down the road. This means we can trial it, see if it works for us and then commit once we know either way.”
