Types of temporary structures
There are a range of different structures that could fit under this umbrella, but essentially it’s the ability to relocate these buildings that enables them to be hired and used temporarily. More specifically, though what does class as a temporary structure?
Looking at short term, event structures are by their very nature temporary. Some events last longer than others, but generally no event is permanent. The Olympics in 2012 saw a large amount of temporary structures, including the worlds largest McDonalds, albeit for a temporary basis only… An event structure might be also in place over the Christmas period for corporate parties or throughout the summer at a Stately Home to accommodate weddings.
Temporary classroom structures
Other temporary structures are used longer term, for years or even decades. They do still retain the ability to be moved easily though. Cabin type structures are used for classrooms, offices and public facilities. These buildings are manufactured in the factory and transported to site as a complete unit. All that is needed is for it to be craned into place, any necessary plumbing and power arrangements sorted and it’s good to go. Despite the fact these structures are now sometimes used instead of permanent buildings, they can still be relocated so do hold claim to the temporary status.
Temporary industrial structures
Then there are more industrial type structures which can be hired and used temporarily. Metal framed warehouse buildings that can be used for storage, workshop or even loading space. Steel buildings are not always as easily to relocate so not all suppliers will offer them as a temporary solution. Aluminium buildings however are because they are much lighter.
Apart from the event buildings, all other temporary structures need some kind of foundations or ground preparation. Aluminium buildings however don’t; they can be built onto existing hard ground. The frames are so lightweight they can be just as easily taken down and removed as they can installed.
In- fact, the installation and removal process is not that dissimilar to an event structure. The quality and durability of these industrial temporary structures is however very different. And, because of this, they can be purchased as well as hired and used long term; even in some cases instead of a more traditional building.
