Experts in sheet metal fabrication and finishing services, Sheet Metal Services (SMS) provide customers with a ‘one stop shop’ supporting them in the design of their products, fabrication and finishing all to a high quality standard.
Additional storage space for raw materials
SMS purchase raw materials from a range of suppliers, and their practice had been to order materials on an ad hoc basis for specific contracts. Whilst the service from SMS’s suppliers is very good, with short lead times, the company wondered whether it would be more beneficial to order the most commonly used materials in advance and store them at their own premises, so that they are immediately available to meet customer needs.
In this type of situation, hiring a temporary storage building from Aganto is the perfect way to evaluate a new system. Quickly installed, with minimum hassle and requiring minimal upfront investment, SMS are now able to trial the new process and decide whether it would be worthwhile for them to invest in a permanent building longer term.
Director Andy Butters understood SMS’s requirements and specified a 10 x 20 x 5.2m storage building, which has been linked straight into the existing premises, so it has become an integral part of the operation, allowing stock to be moved around quickly and easily as it is used.
SMS are planning to introduce an integrated stock control system, which will automatically prompt the order of new materials once buffer levels have been reached, ensuring that materials are always available when required.
